Jazz advanced from its peak in the 1940s to the 1960s. Bud Powell, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Horace Silver, Howard McGhee, and Thelonious Monk all played bebop. Cool jazz was created in the mid-1950s by Dave Brubeck, Lee Konitz, Miles Davies, and Stan Getz. We play Modal Jazz from the mid-1950s and African-American kickback “Hard bop,” which originated with West Coast Jazz. Also included are Bossa Nova, Latin Jazz, and Fusion. Similarly, modern forms such as Free Jazz by Cecil Taylor, John Coltrane, or Ornette Coleman, as well as Free Improvisation by Barry Romberg.
